Junior Tennis Camps, May 30-Aug. 16
HPA tennis coach Jeff Lewis plans 10 sessions for children ages 6-17 of all ability levels. All classes are from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The camps emphasize the development of proper technique of all strokes. Each player will be coached in various aspects of match play, including strategy, which will be customized for the player’s level. Fee: $192 per week. Equestrian Camps, June 6-8 and June 13-15
The daily three-hour equestrian camps, open to all students 8 years and older, offer a diverse training regimen designed to create a working knowledge of the aids and mechanics involved when riding English, as well as proper grooming and tacking procedures. Instruction will encourage students to enhance and challenge their existing equestrian knowledge, or, for beginners, learn stable management and basic riding skills. Fee: $80 per day.
The weekly two-hour Friday Riding Program also is open to students 8 years and older. During the summer, the riding program runs from 3-5 p.m. This ongoing program gives students an opportunity to ride on the field with one instructor or head up into the hills with another. Fee: $40 per session.
Trail rides can be arranged on an individual basis. Fee: $35/hour (two-hour minimum).

Summer Swim Academy, June 6-30
Two two-week sessions are scheduled, with lessons Monday through Thursday. Students will receive a half-hour of instruction each day with free swim available from 1-3 p.m. Fridays. This is a great opportunity to learn to swim or advance one’s swimming technique and endurance, as all levels of classes are provided — from parent and tot to pre-teen.
For those unsure of a child’s level, 10-minute assessments will be offered between 3 and 4 p.m. Sunday (May 22) by appointment at HPA’s Dowsett Pool. Contact coach Sarie Imonen at sarie.swim1@gmail.com to reserve an assessment time. Fee: $100 per session.
Summer Outdoor Program, June 11-July 2
HPA’s Summer Outdoor Program offers students entering grades 8-12 a rare opportunity to experience some of Hawaii’s most beautiful, remote and memorable land and seascapes while participating in service learning programs with local nonprofit environmental organizations.
This 21-day program is a transformational adventure for students to challenge themselves physically and mentally with guidance and support from HPA’s enthusiastic and experienced professional leaders. Activities will include multiple backpacking destinations to pristine valleys and beaches, active water sports in a variety of ecosystems and working with environmental organizations to regenerate native habitats in isolated preserves. Fee: $4,000 (financial aid available).
Ka Makani Kids Camp, June 27-July 22
Four one-week sessions are scheduled. The weekday camp runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the HPA Upper Campus for rising kindergarten through fifth-grade students. Campers will explore “go-green” concepts in an integrated, hands-on environment. Group and team-building activities focus on stories and geography of Waimea, paniolo culture and renewable energy experiments. Fee includes camp T-shirt, daily lunch, snacks and supplies. Summer Session: June 27-July 23
Our diverse Summer Session offers enrichment and unique study opportunities for boarding and day students entering grades 6-12. High school credit classes this summer are marine science seminar that offers a four-hour daily hands-on discovery of Hawaii’s unique marine environment, and open water scuba certification with an Introduction to Hawaii’s reef ecology, where students earn their open water diver certification and use their underwater expertise to study Hawaiian coral reef ecology. A new credit course is being offered this summer, Hawaiian print studio, which introduces students to printmaking techniques that reference traditional kapa making and dyeing using natural materials from local sources.
Another new offering for students in grades 6-12 is Food, Culture and Fun: Foodie Tours Around the World, a cultural journey that includes exploring music, language, art and food from Japan, India, Latin America, and Hawaii.
Two-hour enrichment courses for students in grades 9-12 include comprehensive test preparation with BEST SAT tutorial service, algebra I, algebra II/trigonometry, creative writing, robotics, coding, driver’s education, and more.
New middle school offerings include garden gastronomy: art of cooking and eating from the garden where students will learn to grow, harvest, and prepare healthy meals from fresh, whole foods. Other Middle School classes include: algebra I, ceramics, creative writing, 3-D art, robotics and more.
